Rare and desirable antique map of Bermuda by John Speed, 1626. Features a decorative cartouche and decorative distance keys. Includes remarkable detail for the island, with a complete list of land owners divided by Tribe. The map is based upon John Norwood's survey of 1618. Also interesting to note: in the lower left is Hispaniola, along the top are Florida, Virginia with Roanoak, Cape Cod, and New England, while at the center under the cartouche is a tiny Bermuda. This chart is in original condition, meaning that no restoration work has been done on it, and it is in very good to excellent overall antique condition. Antique uncolored map of North and Central America by Thomas Bowen, published "as the Act directs" by C. Cooke, 1790. This early map of North America has many interesting features: The map labels Quivera, one of the "Seven Cities of Gold" names by Coronado but never found, and Teguayo, another legendary location. Many of the states extend to the Mississippi River, including West Florida, which is separate from East Florida. There are several areas labeled "Parts Unknown" or "Land seen by the Spaniards 1775." This map reflects Cook's "discoveries" but much is still unknown, including Vancouver despite the fact that the Nootka Sound is included. Hawaii is labeled as both Sandwich Islands and O why-hee. this map is in good to very good condition with some minor vertical wrinkles and some light spots. Antique hand colored map of parts of North and Central America by Homann, 1715. Wonderful early map of the Americas produced during the Spanish War of Succession, which directly impacted the ownership of the Louisiana Territory. There are numerous elements of interest throughout this map. In Nova Mexico, the apocryphal kingdoms of gold, Quivara and Teguayo are included. In the British Colonies, New York (Manhata) and other early settlements on Long Island, including Bedford and Southampton are labeled. The Carolinas feature old borders and include the 'Deserta Arenosa' (Deserta Akenatzy). Also depicted is the imagined 'Great Lake of the Southeast', labeled Matiqui, west of the Appalachians. Another speculative lake is shown further west, supposed to be the source of the Apalachicola River. A large vignette depicts native peoples filling the Europeans' wooden chests with gold while a smaller vignette shows a battle at sea. Decorative cartouche. Some coloring may be later.
