Antique hand colored map of the U.S. capital city, Washington DC, from Johnson's New Illustrated Family Atlas of the World, showing L'Enfant's famous grid pattern with major thoroughfares radiating from the White House, then called the President's House; the Capitol; and other public buildings and spaces marked. This map was created before the fill was done in the Potomac River. Includes street names, railroads, the C&O Canal, Columbian University, Howard University, and more. Decorative border, very good condition with toning, some small edge tears, and a few spots. Measures approx. 12.75 x 17 inches to outer border edge.
