No. 1 Eldridge's New Chart of Vineyard Sound and Nantucket Shoals - Maker: Eldridge
Antique nautical chart showing Nantucket Sound, Vineyard Sound, and the shoals near Nantucket and Monomoy, by George Eldridge, copyright 1894 and published by S. Thaxter & Son in 1904. This chart encompasses the area from the Elizabeth Islands to the shoals east of Chatham and Nantucket. Includes all of the small harbors on the south side of the Cape, such as Osterville, Waquoit, Lewis Bay, Chatham, and Woods Hole. Yellow marks indicate lighthouses or light ships. Red lines indicate the area where the lighthouses show red. These charts were hand colored (sometimes by Eldridge's daughters). Well known for their graphic appearance, Eldridge's charts showed only the information necessary for sailors and sea men, in contrast to the government's charts of the time that included topographic information. This clarity made their charts quite popular with navigators and that popularity continues today, although for more aesthetic reasons. Very good condition with some surface soil and two stamps that indicate the chart was sold by Steamer Susie D in Vineyard Haven. Some pencil plotting. Backed with original linen. **NOTE- because this map requires extra insurance for shipping, an additional charge will appear on your card after your original purchase. Antique Sheet Music - Plurimos mar. Ccxciii - Maker: Unknown
Antique sheet music printed on paper. This was likely produced using a woodblock printing method. It features a decorative scene. This sheet shows its age with some mild foxing, some wear at paper edges, and a paper repair on the left side. Tiny pin holes in the vase portion of the decoratie scene- these are so tiny that one can only see them if the paper is held up to the light. Featuring colorful letters in red. Antique sheet music is difficult to date. We believe that generally sheet music hand painted on vellum was likely created in the earlier Middle Ages, while sheet music on paper that is hand painted would have been produced in the middle or later Middle Ages. French monks are known to have begun creating their own paper around 1350 C.E. Sheet music that is printed would have been created after the printing press was invented in Europe (1453 C.E.) and is therefore believed to have been made in the early Renaissance. These generalizations help give us an idea of possible age, but we cannot know if a piece was created in an area that adopted new techniques early or clung to past methods later. Good condition overall. Sheet measures approx. 18 x 15 inches (H x W) overall. Priced as-is. A statement piece - Graphic and interesting, will look great on your wall!

Antique Sheet Music - In Natali plurium Martyrum viij-vij - Maker: Unknown
Antique sheet music used for religious services, mid to late 18th century. The exact date of this sheet is unknown, however, a guess can be made due to various attributes, including the fact that it was wood block printed, the ornate letters, and the use of accidentals. The convention of an accidental remaining in force through a measure developed only gradually over the 18th century. Before then, accidentals only applied to immediately repeated notes or short groups when the composer felt it was obvious that the accidental should continue. The older practice continued in use well into the 18th century. Very good overall antique condition with some minor signs of age. Sheet measures approximately 19.25" x 13.25" (H x W) overall.

Antique Sheet Music - In Natali Presbyteri - xiv-xiij - Maker: Unknown
Antique sheet music used for religious services, mid to late 18th century. The exact date of this sheet is unknown, however, a guess can be made due to various attributes, including the fact that it was wood block printed, the ornate letters, and the use of accidentals. The convention of an accidental remaining in force through a measure developed only gradually over the 18th century. Before then, accidentals only applied to immediately repeated notes or short groups when the composer felt it was obvious that the accidental should continue. The older practice continued in use well into the 18th century. This sheet is the title page for the song, and includes an ornate letter "S" at the top of the front side of the page. Good overall antique condition with some minor signs of age, as well as a 2" tear at one side of the antique paper. Sheet measures approximately 19.25" x 13.25" (H x W) overall.

Antique Sheet Music - XXVM *****SOLD***** - Maker: Unknown
Antique sheet music hand painted on vellum. Was likely produced in a medieval monastery as liturgy music. This sheet shows its age with some stains, wrinkling, and some fading of the ink. Both sides feature colorful letters in red and blue. Good to fair condition overall. Sheet measures approx. 19.5 x 14 inches (H x W) overall. Priced as-is. A statement piece - Graphic and interesting, will look great on your wall! **SOLD**
