Antique hand colored map of the tip of Manhattan by Sidney E. Morse and Samuel Breese, 1842. Shows streets, parks, and squares. Includes Bellevue Hospital, Battery Park, Madison Square, Washington Square, etc. Castle Garden (now called Castle Clinton) appears on this map separated from Battery Park and was in use as an imigration center (pre-Ellis Island) when this map was produced. Also notable are the many wharves and the proposed areas of fill on the east side, some of which seems to have been only paritally done. With some faded orange color on some of the streets. Very good condition with some repaired damage to the paper in the top margin. Approx. 15 x 12 inches to the neatline.
