San Francisco Harbour - Maker: British Admiralty
Antique nautical chart of San Francisco Harbor, including the city of San Francisco, Oakland, Vallejo, and the coast to Drake's Bay and Point Reyes. This chart was originally published in 1856 and has corrections up to 1865. By the British Admiralty Hydrographic Office. At top center are four recognition profiles. Includes information on water depths in fathoms, shoals, rocks, lighthouses, channels, and more. This was a working nautical chart and still retains some signs of its age and use. Very good condition with some toning, slight darkening, minor small stains/spots, a tear on the left side at center (repaired with tape that may or may not be archival) and some edge wear. Paper is slightly wavy. Composed of 3 joined charts to create one large chart. With good insets of Hong Kong and Hawaii. Overall very good condition, with plotting, some surface soiling, two vertical creases, a stain at upper left in the Hong Kong inset. Approx. 36.75 x 98 inches. Priced as is. Can be restored. Antique nautical chart of the entrance to San Francisco, CA, by the US Coast and Geodetic Survey, 1884. This chart was created before the Golden Gate Bridge was started in 1933. It offers a good representation of San Francisco, includes Oakland, Berkeley, and the general Bay area. It has a purple stamp from the store that sold the chart- Dillon & Company. Very good restored condition-has been cleaned and rebacked. Some signs of age may still be visible but overall the chart is whole and looks excellent. West Coast of North America from San Blas to San Francisco - Maker: Imray & Son
Antique uncolored nautical chart showing the California's coast and part of the western coast of Mexico, including present-day Baja California. This chart was published in 1887 and corrected to 1888. Map includes 21 inset maps showing regional bays, islands, and coastal cities (Santa Barbara, Bodega Bay, Monterey, South Farallon Islands, San Diego Bay, Guaymas, Port San Blas, San Jose del Cabo Bay, Tomales Bay, Magdalena Bay, etc.), the largest of these is a map of San Francisco Bay. This chart has been rebacked, and is in very good overall antique condition- there is a darker section in the lower right corner that is a hand-drawn patch (that section must have been damaged or removed at some point and someone created this patch to fill in the missing portion- it is nicely done and only noticeable when examined closely) and a soft horizontal fold near the center. The edges have some wear and the chart will benefit from laying flat before being framed.
