Includes mining districts, emigrant trails, the Santa Fe Trail, the Pony Express Route and several proposed railroads, American Indian tribes, geological features, and political divisions. The Grand Canyon is labeled as the Colorado Canon and we have read that the horizontal county lines are a continuing feature from previous maps, but the counties were never truly divided in that way. Original hand coloring, good detail of landforms, water bodies, and towns. Measures approx. 17.25 x 24.5 inches. Good antique condition with overall toning and some foxing/signs of age.

Antique double-sided sheet from Tunison's Peerless Universal Atlas of the World, c. 1888 by H.C. Tunison. The two-page centerfold is a map of California, Oregon, and Nevada with illustrations of The Big Trees in Mariposa County and The Yosemite Valley in Mariposa County. There are two maps on the back: on one side is a map of Colorado, on the other side is a map of Arizona. Each map is colored by county and show early county configurations. Vibrant original color. Fair to good antique condition with some minor stains, foxing, and smudges, and some small wrinkles. The strike on some pages in this atlas is a bit faint. Centerfold measures approx. 14 x 22 inches to the paper edges, while back side pages measure approx. 14 x 11 inches. Price adjusted based on condition.

Full title: Plate 134. "Essayons" Topographical Map of California, Nevada, Oregon and part of Idaho, 1867 Antique lithograph by Julius Bien & Co published in the Atlas to Accompany the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies published under the direction of the Hon. Daniel S. Lamont, Secretary of War, 1894. The atlas was published as a companion piece to the Official Records of the American Civil War. It contains maps and other images derived from materials generated by both Union and Confederate military personnel during the American Civil War. The atlas was printed in 35 parts between 1891 and 1895. Printed color indicates topography and Union or Confederate locations. This map is arranged in three sections with Northern California on the left, most of the rest of California on the right, and the south-eastern portion at the center. Very good condition with mild image transfer, a few minor spots/stains and a touch of foxing, and some staining and wear to the paper edges. Mild vertical folds and horizontal wrinkles at center that are barely noticeable. Measures approx. 16 x 27 inches to the outer border lines.

The verso describes "The Lake Tahoe Wonderland" with photographs and information. This map is in good condition with folds as issued and a two inch tear at the top into the "L" of Lake. Very good condition with some minor signs of age- toning, slight stains. California map measures approx. 19 x 12 inches to the neatline. The other two maps measure approx. 9 x 11.25 inches.

Antique hand colored map of the lower western states of the United States, by Ettling and published in the Weekly Dispatch on January 31st, 1858. At the time of publication, the gold rush was beginning to slow down, but California has good detail and information thanks to the rush. The neighboring states are notable for their unusual boundaries- Utah stretches from California (no Nevada yet) to Long's Peak in what is now Colorado. New Mexico also borders California (no Arizona yet) but doesn't have an eastern boundary in this map. Also includes Baja California and part of Mexico. Good antique condition with some light stains and a flattened vertical fold. Approx. 16.75 x 11.75 inches to the neatline. **SOLD**

Published during a great time of expansion and change in the US West, just after the Gadsden Purchase and just before the Civil War. Includes emigrant trails, geological features, and political divisions. Fantastically interesting information, such as the paths of various explorers with their names and years of travel (and location of their death if applicable) and captions like "This vast unexplored region of country is supposed to be inhabited by tribes of Indians" and "Abounding in...and Prickly Pear." The Grand Canyon wasn't thoroughly explored yet and is not mentioned on the map. We have read that the horizontal county lines are a common feature in early maps, but the counties were never truly divided in that way. Original hand coloring, good detail of landforms, water bodies, and towns. Measures approx. 18 x 26.75 inches to the paper edges. Good antique condition with overall toning and foxing. One noticeable blemish at bottom where map is torn and was repaired long ago with archival tape that has caused a darkening of the paper. **SOLD**
