United States
Early map of the United States and Territories, and part of Canada and Mexico; drawn by W. Gardner Evans and published by F. J. Huntington in the School Atlas. Interesting parts of this map include: Oregon Territory extending into modern day Canada and depicting what is known as the Oregon Question, which was the creation of the slogan "Fifty-Four Forty or Fight!" (the numbers represent the latitude of the farthest US claim in that area). Also, Maine is shown as it was during the Aroostook War. Additionally, Texas was a recently independent country as of 1836, and known as the Republic of Texas. Texas has a long stove-pipe border extending into the Rocky Mountains. This map pre-dates the Mexican War by nearly a decade. At bottom are tables that list each state and territory with the area for each in square miles. Very good condition, original color, 11 x 18.5 inches. ***SOLD***
