A Map of the Maine Coast from the Kennebec to Rockland - Maker: Ruth Rhodes Lepper/Spaulding-Moss Company
Vibrant antique printed color pictorial map of part of the Maine Coast by Ruth Rhodes Lepper, printed by the Paulding-Moss Company, c. 1960s. This map may have been printed in several different editions, with a possible first edition printed around 1954 and a possible third edition printed around 1970. This map does not note an edition and we therefore believe it to be the first or second. In the 1940s Ruth Rhodes Lepper had a job as a draftsman for the Navy. It was in that job that she developed a love of mapmaking. She later combined her artistic skills with cartography and designed and produced dozens of illustrated maps featuring the history of Maine. Very good condition with a few small spots, some toning at the paper edges, and some very minor wrinkles. Approx. 15.5 x 20.75 inches to the neatline.

Maine and the Disputed Territory *****SOLD***** - Maker: The Family Magazine
Antique uncolored map of Maine showing the boundary lines that were disputed in the Aroostook War. This map shows the boundary lines as the Americans claimed it, as the British claimed it, and as William, the King of the Netherlands who was chosen as a neutral arbitrator, suggested it should be. None of these boundaries are exactly the line that was finally adopted because the US rejected William's suggestion and ultimately lost 900 square miles in the final settlement. Despite being called a war, no battles were ever fought. There was significant debate in Congress on this topic in 1839, when this was probably published. From the Family Magazine, published in either 1839 or 1843 (there is some ambiguity as to which date is correct). Very good antique condition with light toning, and some light minor spotting. Text from reverse side visible. Approximately 7.5 x 5.5 inches to the neatline, sheet measures 10.5 x 6.5 inches. **SOLD**
