Antique hand colored map showing the plan of Boston, Massachusetts. this map shows Boston at an interesting point in its development. The filling of the Mill Pond area was completed in 1828 and this map may have been published earlier than 1828 to demonstrate the end result of that 21 year long effort. The Boston Roxbury Mill Dam, seen in this map, was built in 1814 with a toll road built on the top. Fort Hill still exists in this map, although in 1833 it was cut down and the soil used to fill in the South cove. Includes most street names and bridges, as well as some points of interest (e.g. court house, state house, Boylston Market, etc.) Maker unknown, c. 1820. Good condition with light overall toning, heavy creasing, some paper loss at fold intersections, some spots or foxing, and some roughing/paper loss at the outer edges of the antique paper. Measures approximately 14" x 8.75" to the neatline.
