I had only an hour or so to spend there but could have stayed much longer. Incredible selection. I was visiting from California and they were able to ship them to me so I didn’t have to bring them on the plane. Highly recommend.
This is a must stop every year that I visit the Cape. If you enjoy history and maps obviously you’ll be interested but it’s just as useful as a place to find fantastic gifts for weddings, anniversaries or any special occasion. Gifting someone an antique or replica map of a special place in their life is unique and truly meaningful. They serve as great decorations and conversation pieces in your home. The staff is friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Maps of Antiquity.
A hidden treasure for history buffs, collectors
Although easy to miss because it looks like a home, Maps of Antiquity is a must stop shop for cartographers and cartogrophiles alike. Filled to the brim with maps of New England, the Midwest, and all around the world this store contains the map of your dreams.
When you visit, you will find yourself in a very unique establishment. It’s fun to wander through and explore on your own or with assistance. The small-looking structure belies the really incredible selection of maps, many of them unique and one of a kind, within. You never feel under pressure to buy and you have unbiased advice from the staff. Prices are reasonable and you cannot leave without feeling better informed. The staff are all smart, respectful and helpful, making your visit all the more enjoyable. What an experience!

We stopped by on our vacation to look around as my husband and I both love looking at maps. It’s not just maps, there are old science exhibits, pictures of birds and so much more. We purchased a couple of antique weather exhibits that were really cool. Since we were flying, they even wrapped it for us in a sturdy tube to carry back home. If you like old stuff, and not just maps, this is your place.

I go to Cape Cod often, and this map store is a diamond in the rough. I got a map from Greece, and it is in perfect quality. Great job.
I bought a map from Maps of Antiquity as a gift for my husband. I called the store and provided a description of what I was looking for. Perri was extremely helpful and emailed me suggestions for what fit my description. Maps of Antiquity has a very wide and comprehensive selection of impressive maps and I was able to find exactly what I was looking for. I received the map very promptly in the mail and it is gorgeous and in great condition, especially given its age. My husband was very happy. I highly recommend shopping at Maps of Antiquity as I had a very positive experience.

Extremely friendly staff are there to help you sift through a fascinating array of well preserved maps and prints. I’ve never experienced a store like this, as it blends the feel of a historical library with a commercial store. It is hard not to be impressed when looking at 500 year old hand colored maps or beautiful 100 year old sea weed lithographs. It may sound strange, but it is impressive to those who appreciate such things and you won’t find another place like it.

I don’t even know how I found this website but it’s a real treasure, and gave me a fantastic idea for my husband’s birthday. The collection of maps they have is just incredible. The site is a little outdated but it adds to the charm, given what they’re selling…clearly these folks are map aficionados who know and love what they’re doing! I’m not a “cartophile” but I can imagine that those who are just drool over this site. I easily found what I was looking for (an old map of the Polynesian islands) and was able to get a great sense of what I was buying via the description and enlarged picture. I knew it would be perfect. Ordering was easy, a gal at the shop emailed back and forth with me a few times regarding shipping status, she was super responsive and pleasant. The map was shipped promptly, arrived via priority mail within a few days, packaging was perfect, everything done with great care and attention to detail. My husband loves the map (so do I, it is super cool!). 5-star experience and I’m sure I’ll shop here again.

As a visitor from San Antonio, good friends who live in Mashpee took us to the map store. Maps are my favorite things, and I really didn’t expect the experience I had coming to a small house with little distinction, set back from the street in a small town. In travels across the world, I don’t know if I’ve ever been in a map store as extensive and authentic. I could have stayed all day, going through the entire collection.
Being from Texas, I inquired about maps from my area and was genuinely surprised to find an wide-ranging collection. The first map that caught my eye was an original (taken, obviously, with a binding, from an atlas), an Augustus Mitchell 1860 County map of Texas with hand colorings. I really wanted it and was serious, but the price was more than I anticipated and I had to give it some thought. In the process, the store manager showed me a recent print of the same map – a perfect reproduction indistinguishable from the original, priced less than a fifth of the original. Very tempting.
Again, after much consideration, I decided on the original. I wanted the real thing. The manager did not have to show me the print (and I would not likely have discovered it on my own). The integrity of the transaction, along with the engaging knowledge and welcoming of the manager made a memorable and immensely pleasurable experience. I will visit the store again on subsequent trips to the Cape.

This traditional “Cape Cod” house on Main St in Chatham,Ma is situated in a beautiful garden setting. The main floor houses a huge, and fascinating collection of antique maps and reproductions. The owner, Bob and his staff are very professional and knowledgable and the maps can be matted and framed on the premises and shipped wherever needed. I found two beautiful antique maps of Ireland, but came home with a whole wish list of maps i NEED in the future. Upstairs there are guest rooms which we were privileged to stay in. Comfortable, clean and in a perfect location to Chatham and all fun places in Cape Cod. I especially loved the window seat over looking Bob’s beautiful gardens. We arranged our stay through sales and service manager Marisa who is as gracious as she is lovely. Many thanks to all,it was a wonderful experience.

My family spent about half an hour in this shop, browsing the amazing maps. The owner chatted with us quite a bit, telling us a bit about Chatham (it was our first visit there), offering some recommendations for things to do there, and highlighting some items in his collections (including his oldest maps). This is a fun place for anyone to visit, and I highly recommend a stop here. It definitely stands out from the clothing/art boutiques that dominate Chatham’s downtown.

We had a few rainy days in the Cape, so we had to rearrange our thinking about what to do. This shop looked intriguing – and it was!! How fun to see maps dating back to medieval times. So cool to see how our world has transformed. Also, of special interest was the New England room where we found several prints from local attractions of childhood towns. Stop here if you have some time and love maps or history!! The shopkeeper was happy to have us peruse and even brought us out some maps of interest from our conversation!

We stopped out of curiosity thinking it was an antique store, but it’s a Guest House AND if you are looking for maps this is the place to go! Maps from all over the world…and easily works of art in their own respect. They also have Vintage postcards. There are three charming and beautifully done rooms that they rent out and the rates they quoted seemed more than reasonable considering they are located right on Route 28 minutes from Chatham Center, local beaches, and the Cape Cod Bike Trail. The back yard has lovely gardens and there were lilac and wisteria blooming at the time of our visit. The owners Danielle and Robert were friendly and welcoming. We are already trying to figure out how soon we can book our next stay in one of their suites!

When I first heard about Maps of Antiquity, I was excited but had some reservations about whether or not they would have anything I was looking for. Much to my surprise, these guys really hit the ball out of the park. These folks really know what they are doing and have access to a vast amount of resources. Who would have thought that there would be a beautiful map of the Philippines included in a US Commercial Atlas. Maps of antiquity is the best place to but antique maps that we have came across, and that is a lot to say coming from Europe where the competition is fierce! Maps of antique have not only a wide range and excellent quality but also a team of passionate specialists who really know a lot and truly enjoy their expertise. In addition they send maps to London where we live -the last one we ordered arrived within a week after purchase and during the Christmas period so we were very pleased and impressed with their fast turn around- We felt really lucky we came across to Maps of Antiquity and their team. Perri in particular was such a star and made it all happen so flawlessly!

I wanted to get my mom a map of Cape Cod for her new home on the Cape as a Christmas present. Since we live in Western part of the state, it was not going to be easy for me to go to Maps of Antiquity to see their selections. They made this process so easy for me, they provided me with photos and descriptions of maps that they knew fit my criteria. Perri who I mainly communicated with was the most pleasant and helpful person. Since I decided to pick up the framed map from the store after Christmas when we were going to be in town instead of having it shipped to my mom’s before Christmas, Perri knowing my mom was not going to see her present on Christmas even included a description and photo of the piece I purchased so that I can have my mom open that on Christmas day. When I went to the store to pick it up, Perri wasn’t there but the two people that were there on that day, were just as wonderful!

They are prompt, informed and meticulous. They took me through the steps and my husband and zeroed in on an antique map of the county our friends live in. We know this will be very special to them.It arrived promptly after I placed the order. It was so exciting to see a map from the mid 19th century colored by unknown hands. Its an absolute treasure. My wife and I went to the store to look at maps of Nepal. There were 4 people in the store and we didn’t realize all of them worked at the store. I asked one of them if she had any maps of Nepal and she produced a couple. Soon I realized that all 4 of these people were hunting for Nepal maps and they produced several. What fantastic service! We spent about 2 hours in the store talking to all of the helpful staff about a variety of subjects. It made a rainy morning very memorable.
Thank you all !!

I had emailed the store about a couple of maps we had seen on their website, and their responses were always prompt and extremely helpful. When we arrived not only did the map we chose look even better in person, but the frame they had used was amazing quality.
One of the owners spent the time to go over the map with us, going over the details within the map, the creator of the map, year made, etc. Overall it was an excellent experience and this map will make a wonderful best man gift for my fiance’s brother, who live on the cape. I highly suggest stopping by this shop! We’ll definitely be back.

My husband and I rushed here after our whale watcher cruise hoping to find something nice to remember our anniversary weekend. We arrived about 30 minutes before the shop closed. I expected to have a quick browse then hurried out the door. That did not happen. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. We weren’t sure what exactly we wanted, so they pointed us to the direction of different maps and we began looking. They have a wonderful inventory, so many interesting maps to look at. We quickly got lost in the maps and could have stayed there for hours!! Next time we visit Chatham we will have to allow more time at Maps of Antiquity. It truly is a must see if you are in the area. This is a wonderful map store. They have maps from all over the place and everything is very organized and easy to look through. If you’re looking for something specific they will help you find it and show you some specialty things that aren’t out. They have a wide range of original maps and reproductions and variable price points. If you need something shipped, framed or rolled to take back while traveling it isn’t a problem. I look forward to stopping in the next time I’m in the area.

We have visited Maps of Antiquity several times over the years. We have purchased maps there as well as having some restorations, including cleaning and a fairly complex restoration which involved restoring a missing piece that someone had cut out of an 1855 map of our hometown. We have also had framing done there. All dealings with Danielle and Robert have been friendly, courteous and professional. We always stop in when we are on the Cape.

I found maps of Antiquity online. Their range of maps and comparative maps is astonishing. Service, shipping and correspondence was professional. I can highly recommend this to map-freaks like me but also to others with more general interests in history, geology and geography. It’s a treasure!
My husband’s job brings us to different countries every 2-4 years, and each country becomes part of our family’s memories and journey. We were desperately looking for an antique map of El Salvador, but could not find a verifiably genuine map anywhere, although there are plenty of fakes floating around. Were delighted to find a beautiful map via Maps of Antiquity website, and had it professionally framed with them. Not cheap, but absolutely worth it. Now, two years later, I have just purchased another map, and communication was easy, with timely and thorough replies for emails. A very reliable, unique and most excellent place. Can’t wait to visit in person one day, and will keep on making online purchases from them meanwhile. Highly recommend.
