The photo shows the map horitzontally because the river runs east-west, but when the map is oriented in this way, the writing on the map is sideways. In order to display the map with the writing right-side-up, one would need to display the map vertically by turning it 90 degrees counter-clockwise. Good condition with some wear at the folds- somewhat fragile. Approx. 31 x 8.75 inches to the neatline.

Antique printed color pictorial map of Cape Cod by Melanie Elisabeth Leonard, 1926. This fun and entertaining map shows cars streaming over the main roads of Cape Cod, bootleggers' boats in Cape Cod Bay, and a giant sea serpent with its tail as the canal. The map captures the whimsical character of the Cape in such vignettes as the fisherman saying to the tourist "Them ain't clams, them's cohags!" and the stack of books by Joseph C. Lincoln in Chatham. To the east side of the Cape are names and ships of the explorers who had stories about Cape Cod, including Hudson, who saw a mermaid. A decorative border of cod fish surrounds. Very good to excellent antique condition, with folds as issued. Colorful early 20th century map of Boston commissioned by The Boston Five Cents Savings Bank and drawn by Charles R. Capon in 1929, on the eve of the stock market crash and the Great Depression. The city is depicted as a neat and tidy collection of red-roofed buildings with the bank holding center stage and other landmarks--the State House, Old North Church, Faneuil Hall, etc.--prominently labeled with scrolls, and the Public Garden with its swans and flowers. Eight heraldic shields labeled Medicine, Law, Science, Industry, Letters, Music, Art and Trade convey civic pride. Folded into quadrants inside front and back covers, full map unfolded measures 18.25 x 24 inches, very good condition.

Colorful and whimsical commemorative map commissioned by Filene's to celebrate Boston's Tercentenary in 1930. Drawn by Raymond Luskin, its cartouche states that it shows "street locations, inns, taverns, graveyards, gibbets and the like with here and there a hint of the costumes and mode of living of the time." Text mimics 17th century English and border illustrations humorously note Puritanical dress codes. Verso is a brochure displaying the many flags associated with the early United States around the time of the Revolution. Map area measures 12 X 18 inches.

Authorized Map of the Second Byrd Antarctic Expedition - Maker: George Annand
Printed color pictorial map of Antarctica and the South Pole by George Annand, printed in 1934. The cartouche explains the "notable feat in radio history" that this map was created to commemorate- live radio broadcasts from the expedition "as it is being lived-- from the very lips of the men themselves." This map was subsidized by Grape-Nuts. The map features Antarctica showing the explored and unexplored areas with penguins, whales, bits of New Zealand and South America for reference, and two inset maps. The upper inset map shows the route of Byrd's expedition and the radio waves that will be broadcast from Little America to Buenos Aires to New York and then to the rest of the US. The lower inset map shows the Bay of Whales with a detail map of Little America. This map comes with the original envelope that it was sent in by General Foods company to a customer. Very good antique condition overall with small minor tears at top and bottom, very slight seam separations on right and left seams, and some pencil writing at bottom. Approx. 17 x 23 inches to the neatline.

This map was issued as a folding map and it retains its folds. Good to very good condition overall, with a small tear at the top right that goes through the border and into the map a small amount. Very good antique condition with foxing on the right New England area and minor foxing on left edge, slight stain at center fold. This map is full of fascinating history and transposes Boston from 1630 over the outlines of Boston in 1830 and 1930, showing how the city changed over time. On verso is a map showing the rides of three men on the fateful night in 1775 to warn that "The British are coming!" Very good antique condition with folds, verso map has some apparent glue and paper bits stuck to it in the upper left margin. The Boston 1630 map measures approx. 16 x 19.5 inches to the neatline, and the verso map measures approx. 12.5 x 16 inches.

This printed color antique bird's-eye-view map was published in 1911 by the Delaware & Hudson Company and the Champlain Transportation Company. The map was made by A. A. Heard and included in a travel brochure highlighting the Lake George, Lake Champlain area. This map is still complete with the brochure, which shows maps of both lakes as well as boating and leisure information. The map stretches from Albany on the left to Montreal on the right and includes Schenectady, Rutland, Burlington, Plattsburg, Fort William Henry, the St Lawrence River, and more. Folded as issued. Good antique condition with some separation at seams. The map is approx. 8.5 x 30 inches, but when the brochure is folded out completely, it is 17 x 30 inches.

Antique-style printed color map published in 1963 by Daniel-Lewis Derveaux. This map shows the wine regions of France in purple and locates the important cheese makers with cheese wheel symbols. Three inset maps, one of Corsica, one showing the Burgundy region, and the other showing the Bordeaux region. The decorative vignettes reinfornce the concept in the cartouche and the crest, of Pais de Cocagne. Pais de Cocagne is, in the imagination of certain European cultures, a kind of paradise land- a miraculous country whose Nature is full of generosity for its inhabitants and visitors. Far from famines and wars, Cocagne is a land of perpetual festivals and feasts, where fun and laziness is promoted, and where the work is prohibited. Is France the miraculous land of plenty?
