A Map of New-England - Maker:
Uncolored map of New England (showing a region stretching from as far south as Newhaven, Connecticut to as far north as Portland, Maine, and as far south as the Connecticut River to the eastern point of Cape Cod and the Islands, and including Rhode Island, Narragansett, Boston, and more) as shown from an interesting angle- oriented to the West. This is a 20th century reproduction of the original antique map published by John Foster, 1677, which was purportedly the first map printed in America. We do not know who produced this map or when. Includes a compass rose, illustrated houses denoting towns, and illustrations of trees, animals, native peoples, and ships sailing the seas. Page area measures approximately 14" x 17.25" in total.

It features a decorative border with the major cities of Europe depicted along the top and the clothing styles of various peoples, for men or women, along the sides. The cities at the top are London, Paris, Rome, Constantinople, Venice, Prague, Amsterdam, and Lisbone. Ships and monsters traverse the ocean and Mediterranean Sea. This map has been archivally restored- cleaned, deacidified, and backed with a light-weight tissue for added strength. It is in very good condition with some staining along the paper edges, possibly due to an acidic mat that was once around the map. The cities of Amsterdam and Lisbon in the views in the top border seem to have some slight image loss. Approx. 15.5 x 20.25 inches to the outer border lines.

This charming map of Nantucket features a triangular Tuckernuck Island, an enlarged Great Point area, tiny rows of trees delineating different areas, and a "Sand Ripp call'd Pochick." The numbers on this map correspond to information in the book. The (no longer complete) book can be purchased with the map for an additional $300. This map is in very good condition with a few minor stains. It has been archivally restored- cleaned, deacidified, and backed with a light-weight tissue to give the map strength. The margin on the bottom was lost at some point. The map measures approx. 7.75 x 10.75 inches to the neatlines.

This is a rare antique map which appeared in the Massachusetts Magazine, published by Isaiah Thomas. This "Magazine" had a limited circulation and is considered by collectors to be quite rare. The map was published to illustrate a proposal for a canal from Barnstable Bay (Cape Cod Bay) to Buzzards Bay at Sandwich. It was the first map printed in America to focus on the area around Cape Cod. Very good condition, archivally restored - cleaned, deacidified, backed with a light-weight tissue for strength and to close any separations or tears. Somewhat tight margin on right side. Matted.
