Antique hand colored comparative map of the known mountains and rivers, from Desilver's "A New Universal Atlas Containing Maps of the various Empires, Kingdoms, States and Republics Of The World", 1859. At this time Mount Everest's height had been calculated and published in the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India but the mountain was known as Peak XY and it does not appear on this map (perhaps the data required verification). The source of the Nile had not yet been identified (the source of the Nile on this map is listed as the Mountains of the Moon). Lake Victoria was found by Europeans in 1858 but not confirmed as the source of the Nile until 1875. The tallest mountain on this map is Kunchinginga at 28,176 feet (Everest is 29,029 ft.). Good to very good condition with light toning at edges, slight image transfer, minor staining on left side, some small tears in edges, 12.5 x 16 inches to the edge of the decorative border.

Six compasses, four of which show the magnetic compass versus the true compass readings. This chart has been professionally restored - cleaned, deacidified, and rebacked with linen. Very good restored condition. Some light stains are still visible. The chart was damaged on the bottom edge and the damaged areas have been filled in to be barely noticeable (mostly in margin) Approx. 28 x 39 inches to the neat line, and 30 x 40.5 inches to the paper edges.

Antique printed color atlas of the Philippines published in 1900. The maps in the atlas were drafted by Philippine draftsmen under the direction of Rev. Jose Algue, S. J., director of the Manila Jesuit Observatory, and the atlas was published by the US Coast and Geodetic Survey. The story of how that came about is printed in the beginning of the atlas, after the two title pages- one in Spanish and one in English. The text on the maps is in Spanish. All maps appear to be single sheet with nothing printed on the verso. The maps are in very good condition. The atlas cover is worn at the edges but solid. Some of the pages are cracking near the binding (see the last photo). Ex Libris. The atlas size is approx. 15 x 13.25 inches.

Antique hand colored map showing the plan of Boston, Massachusetts. this map shows Boston at an interesting point in its development. The filling of the Mill Pond area was completed in 1828 and this map may have been published earlier than 1828 to demonstrate the end result of that 21 year long effort. The Boston Roxbury Mill Dam, seen in this map, was built in 1814 with a toll road built on the top. Fort Hill still exists in this map, although in 1833 it was cut down and the soil used to fill in the South cove. Includes most street names and bridges, as well as some points of interest (e.g. court house, state house, Boylston Market, etc.) Maker unknown, c. 1820. Good condition with light overall toning, heavy creasing, some paper loss at fold intersections, some spots or foxing, and some roughing/paper loss at the outer edges of the antique paper. Measures approximately 14" x 8.75" to the neat line.

The maker of this map is unknown, the map was published in a school geography book c. 1850. An inset map at top shows the vicinity of Quebec and an image depicts the Death of Wolfe, copied from the well-known 1770 painting by Benjamin West depicting the death of British General James Wolfe at the 1759 Battle of Quebec during the French and Indian War. Hand coloring is probably recent, although not done by Maps of Antiquity. Very good condition, with some very light staining at bottom. Approx. 7 x 4.25 inches to neat line.

This map shows the locations of naval bases, islands owned by the British, the US, the Dutch, and Japan, as well as railroads, country boundaries, and more. An inset map shows the Philippines. Dudley Chase republished this map in conjunction with the Fairfield and Ellis Insurance Company with some changes and updates in 1945 after the war was over. This is the original 1944 version.
