Antique hand colored folding map of part of Canada and the United States, by Cross, 1833. This map shows the south-eastern part of Canada from Nova Scotia to Lake Huron. Interesting aspects of this map include the Erie Canal, 5 proposed canals in New York, one proposed canal in Ohio, and the Maine border, which was the cause of the Aroostook War. This map shows the British version of the border, which had been a point of contention between the two countries for many years. Also of note: this map shows the region of Toronto but not as a city. This map is made of 21 sheets joined on a linen backing. It has marbleized end papers but no case. Good antique condition with some staining and seam tears. Approx. 15 x 26 inches to the neatlines.
