Canada Louisiane et Terres Angloises - Maker: D'Anville
Set of two joinable antique hand colored maps showing parts of Canada and the northern United States, by D'Anville, 1755. These maps are part of a four map set, however only two are currently available. Shows from Newfoundland south to New York including New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, the Saint Lawrence River, the Great Lakes, and as far west as just beyond the Mississippi River. In the west, the areas are named after the native peoples. The Mississippi River has a note that the source is still unknown. These maps represent a time in the continent's history when the white settlers were exploring towards the west via river and settlements were almost exclusively on rivers or oceans as methods of access. Very good overall antique condition. Color is almost certainly not original. Each map is approx. 19 x 22 inches to the neatline.

Antique uncolored map of Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. By De Crevecoeur, engraved by Tardieu, 1787. From an English version of the book called Letters from an American Farmer. This charming map of Nantucket features a triangular Tuckernuck Island, an enlarged Great Point area, tiny rows of trees delineating different areas, and a "Sand Ripp call'd Pochick." The numbers on this map correspond to information in the book. The (no longer complete) book can be purchased with the map for an additional $300. This map is in very good condition with a few minor stains. It has been archivally restored- cleaned, deacidified, and backed with a light-weight tissue to give the map strength. The margin on the bottom was lost at some point. The map measures approx. 7.75 x 10.75 inches to the neatlines.

Antique, beautifully colored view of Cadiz, Spain, by Perrot, 1850. Published by Turgis. Cadiz is an ancient port city in southwest Spain, on a strip of land surrounded by the sea. A 16th-century base for exploration and trade, it has more than 100 watchtowers, including iconic Torre Tavira, traditionally used for spotting ships. Cadiz is also the oldest continuously inhabited city in Spain and one of the oldest in Western Europe. This antique print shows a view from San Sebastian with the many towers of the city as will as many ships and a calm blue sky above. Very good antique condition, currently framed in an old frame that has some damage, will be sold unframed unless customer requests frame (no additional cost for frame, but shipping will cost more). Approx. 16.25 x 24.5 to edge of colored image, approx. 25.5 x 31.25 framed. Please forgive the slight glare and my reflection in the glass in the photos.

This also shows how Brookline was once connected to the rest of Norfolk county, although now it is not attached. Two inset maps show the Plan of Dedham Village and the Plan of the City of Roxbury. In this map, Roxbury consisted of areas that we now known as part of Boston. Very good condition, restored, rebacked and some cracking in the paper was repaired. Surface varnish was not removed because of very good original surface. Some tear repairs at the top. Original color. Original rods. Approx. 29.5 x 43 inches at its largest measurements. The Day Before the Great Naval Review -- The Fleet Passing Castle William on its Way up the Hudson - Maker: Harper's Weekly
Antique black and white print showing the Naval Review that was part of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair and Columbia Exhibition. At least twenty other countries were invited to participate in the naval review. Many war ships were sent, as well as replicas of Christopher Columbus' ships the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria, sent by Spain. There is an interesting story of the whole Naval Review written by Joseph C. Mosier called The Naval Rendezvous of 1893. This print was a four-page spread published in Harper's Weekly on May 6, 1893 and Harper's took the image from a drawing by Victor Perard. This print has been cleaned and restored, some tears have been repaired and the whole print has been backed in tissue. Very good condition. approx. 12.5 x 42 inches to the print edge (not including the title at bottom).

It has been rebacked with linen and restored. It is in very good antique condition, with one 1” spot in lower right, as shown.

Antique uncolored map showing eastern Massachusetts, including Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, Plymouth, Boston, Cape Ann, and Narragansett. This is a rare antique map which appeared in the Massachusetts Magazine, published by Isaiah Thomas. This "Magazine" had a limited circulation and is considered by collectors to be quite rare. The map was published to illustrate a proposal for a canal from Barnstable Bay (Cape Cod Bay) to Buzzards Bay at Sandwich. It was the first map printed in America to focus on the area around Cape Cod. Very good condition, archivally restored - cleaned, deacidified, backed with a light-weight tissue for strength and to close any separations or tears. Somewhat tight margin on right side. Matted. Exquisite, large antique map of Provincetown and Truro, and nautical chart of surrounding waters, produced with information from 1833 to 1835. The image shows four sections which can be put together as one or displayed in four section. Each section measures approximately 29 x 35 inches, total piece measures approx. 56 1/2 x 69 1/2 inches. With information on high and low tides, bathometric data of off shore areas as well as significant land detail, including landforms, interior water bodies, details of villages and towns. This antique map has been restored, cleaned, de-acidified, and re-backed, very good condition overall with some patched and repaired areas, mostly in margins. Published in 1866, it shows the landowners at that time and the elevations and street layouts with new street layouts and elevation drop superimposed over the old. The changes show on this map are now nearly gone and barely recognizable. This map shows the cutting down of Fort Hill by up to 50 feet. New roads are highlighted in a light orange-tan color. Antique, hand colored map of Long Island from the Atlas of Long Island, NY by Beers, Comstock, & Cline, 1873. This map was in the atlas as a folded map. This map shows each town delineated by color, as well as the counties delineated by thick pink lines. In 1873 Nassau County did not yet exist-- it was founded in 1899-- so this map only has Kings County, Queens County, and Suffolk County. Other features of interest include New York City, Gardiners Island, and Fishers Island. The lines that criss-cross the map show longitude and latitude, and also the radial distance from the City Hall of New York City. This map is highly collectible. Very good restored condition. Fold lines are apparent. Some light minor staining. Map has been cleaned, de-acidified, and backed on tissue for stability. Some minor paper loss at edges but would not be noticeable when framed. Antique Poster for the 1936 Winter Olympics, reading: Deutschland 1936, IV Olympische Winterspiele, Garmisch-partenkirchen, 6-16. Februar 1936. Alpine skiing made its first appearance in the winter Olympics as the combined, which added a skier's results in both the downhill and slalom. 1936 is the last year in which the Summer and Winter Games were both held in the same country. This poster was created by Ludwig Hohlwein and was printed in 13 different languages and distributed around the world. This is the German version. It is considered one of the most memorable images from the 1936 Olympic games and was also printed on post cards and brochures. It is in very good antique condition, with minor paper loss at seam intersections, has been flattened and backed for stability. Original poster measures approximately 39 x 25 inches.
