Clemens' Silent Teacher, Dissected Map of the United States, and of Each State in Counties - Maker: Rev. E.J. Clemens Rare and unusual boxed Jigsaw Puzzle Map of the State of New York. Chromolithograph paper on wood, 1880, by Rev. E.J. Clemens, map by J.H. Colton 1855. The box which holds the puzzle map measures approx. 9.25 x 7.25 x 2.25 inches, and is decorated on the lid by a beautifully colored illustration with characters representing all the nations of the world, as well as Uncle Sam. The box contains the Jigsaw Puzzle Map of the State of New York, which, when assembled, measures approx. 16 x 12.25 inches, and features a map by J.H. Colton. On the reverse of the assembled puzzle map is a colorful advertising image for Sherwin Williams Paints, which includes a charming central portrait of a young child with a large paintbrush, surrounded by interesting vignettes. The puzzle and box are both in very good condition, with rich, bright and vibrant original color.
