This particular map is especially notable as it has an original, rare, dedication signature from the maker, Henry Walling, lower center: "Prof. A. D. Bache, Supt U.S. Coast Survey, with the compliments of H.F. Walling". Many unique features: 48 insets, all property owners from 1858 listed, 7 Cape & Island engraved scenes, list of businesses, town boundaries, great for genealogical work, Billingsgate Island, hydrologic/water connection between Pleasant Bay and Nauset Harbor, old names for villages e.g. Fresh Brook Village in Wellfleet, Pond Village in Truro, Factory Village in Brewster, Spring Hill in Sandwich, Mashpee, Bourne as part of Sandwich, before Cape Cod canal, early railroad routes, and more.
