Hand colored antique coast report chart from 1854 by the U.S. Coast Survey showing Minots Ledge off Boston Harbor. The chart says 1853 but this chart was publushed in 1854. Shows Cohasset Harbor and Old Harbor, as well as several saltworks and a marine railroad (railroad tracks that go directly into the water, in order to allow a rail car to go into the water and under a boat, which is secured to the car and both are removed from the water, allowing work to be done on the boat). Also includes information on islands, rivers, water depths, and shoals. At top and bottom are profile views of the Outer and Inner Minots includins water depths. Very good antique condition with slight paper loss at center fold. This chart has been restored- cleaned and rebacked and the paper loss filled in - and then hand colored. Approx. 20 x 20 inches to the neatline.
