This map includes the cities of Memphis, Vicksburg, New Orleans, and many more important locations along the river. Colored by state. Verso is text concerning the importance of the Mississippi River in the Civil War. "The possession of the Mississippi," said General Sherman, in his speech at St Louis just after the close of the war, "is the possession of America." Good to very good condition, this map has some small tears and stains that are almost entirely in the margins. Approx. 14 x 9 inches to the neatline. Color may be later.

Very interesting borders - these seem to show the country in transition between the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (Mexican-American War) in 1848 and the Compromise of 1850. The border with Mexico is still changing, as is the Texas border. Upper of New California encompasses Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and part of New Mexico. At bottom are diagrams showing the height above sea level for two parts of the continent. Very good condition with a few tiny spots, 8.25 x 10 inches.
