Antique uncolored map of New England and New York in 1697, published by Hinton, Simpkins, and Marshall in 1830. This map was based upon a similar map of this area, which was included in Cotton Mather's 1702 publication "Magnalia Christi Americana," which detailed the religious changes and developments in New England from 1620-1698. Map includes coastal cities, major cities, rivers, etc. Charmingly inaccurate in its scale and in other details, including Rhode Island drawn as an actual Island, Martha's Vineyard labeled as "Martin's Vineyard," all rivers are shown as traveling north to south in incredibly straight paths, etc. Includes an "Indicot Tree" at the top of the map, presumably representing the Endicott (or Endecott) Pear Tree in Danvers, Massachusetts, which is believed to be the oldest living cultivated fruit tree in North America. Visible plate mark. Very good overall antique condition with some toning and mild foxing, mainly at the outer edges. Measures approximately 7.5" x 9.75" to the neatline.

Includes St Andrews, Bar Harbor, Portland, Boston, New York, Long Island, Bangor, Buffalo, Montreal, Cincinnati, Chicago, the Great Lakes, Ottawa, the Adirondack, Catskill, Green, and White Mountains. This map has an interesting perspective because most of it is very normal until you reach the top, where it becomes stretched and rolls outward to the horizon line, with Quebec sitting atop the horizon.
