Antique uncolored map of New England and New York in 1697, published by Hinton, Simpkins, and Marshall in 1830. This map was based upon a similar map of this area, which was included in Cotton Mather's 1702 publication "Magnalia Christi Americana," which detailed the religious changes and developments in New England from 1620-1698. Map includes coastal cities, major cities, rivers, etc. Charmingly inaccurate in its scale and in other details, including Rhode Island drawn as an actual Island, Martha's Vineyard labeled as "Martin's Vineyard," all rivers are shown as traveling north to south in incredibly straight paths, etc. Includes an "Indicot Tree" at the top of the map, presumably representing the Endicott (or Endecott) Pear Tree in Danvers, Massachusetts, which is believed to be the oldest living cultivated fruit tree in North America. Visible plate mark. Very good overall antique condition with some toning and mild foxing, mainly at the outer edges. Measures approximately 7.5" x 9.75" to the neatline.

Rare and unusual boxed Jigsaw Puzzle Map of the State of New York. Chromolithograph paper on wood, 1880, by Rev. E.J. Clemens, map by J.H. Colton 1855. The box which holds the puzzle map measures approx. 9.25 x 7.25 x 2.25 inches, and is decorated on the lid by a beautifully colored illustration with characters representing all the nations of the world, as well as Uncle Sam. The box contains the Jigsaw Puzzle Map of the State of New York, which, when assembled, measures approx. 16 x 12.25 inches, and features a map by J.H. Colton. On the reverse of the assembled puzzle map is a colorful advertising image for Sherwin Williams Paints, which includes a charming central portrait of a young child with a large paintbrush, surrounded by interesting vignettes. The puzzle and box are both in very good condition, with rich, bright and vibrant original color. There is one minor repair on the box lid, small repairs along the base of the box, and a minor crease. This is a rare and unusual antique educational toy.

The maker of this map is unknown, the map was published in a school geography book c. 1850. An inset map at top shows the vicinity of Quebec and an image depicts the Death of Wolfe, copied from the well-known 1770 painting by Benjamin West depicting the death of British General James Wolfe at the 1759 Battle of Quebec during the French and Indian War. Hand coloring is probably recent, although not done by Maps of Antiquity. Very good condition, with some very light staining at bottom. Approx. 7 x 4.25 inches to neatline.

The map stretches from Albany on the left to Montreal on the right and includes Schenectady, Rutland, Burlington, Plattsburg, Fort William Henry, the St Lawrence River, and more. Folded as issued. Good antique condition with some separation at seams. The map is approx. 8.5 x 30 inches, but when the brochure is folded out completely, it is 17 x 30 inches.

The river has been popular as a trout stream since the early 19th century, when it became one of the first resort destinations in the United States. It is known for excellent fly fishing for trout. This map was produced in 1920 by Elliot L Chisling and features a decorative fishing-themed cartouche. Many fishing spots are identified on the map, including Cement Bag Pool and the Pork Barrel.
