Features cities marked with numbers (theoretically for the students to learn the various cities), and also shows the small beginnings of the railway system- the thin pink lines between points indicated existant railroads and the green lines probably indicate proposed railroads. Good to very good condition with some minor surface soiling and signs of age. Has some pencil writings indicating city names. Has original hanging rings on back, left side ring has been squished. Approx. 23 x 27.5 inches to the neatline.

Uncolored antique nautical chart by Joshua Fisher from 1776 showing Delaware Bay and River with parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. This is an important Revolutionary War era map shows Philadelphia, Wilmington, and Cape May, as well as shoals and other dangers to ships. The Delaware River is currently well known for George Washington's famous crossing on December 25th, 1776 and although the area of his crossing is not on this map, this is the sort of chart that would have been crucial. This was printed in London by W. Faden who was the successor to Jefferys. Also includes a list of twenty-two river pilots and the masters of the vessels and a warning to be wary of the soundings for safe navigation. Visible plate lines. Antique hand colored map of Philadelphia by Gray, published in 1876. Shows streets, railroads, ferry lines, parks, cemeteries, and more. The year 1876 is important in Philadelphia's history because it was the year of their Centennial International Exhibition. Nearly 10 million visitors attended the exhibition and thirty-seven countries participated in it. The buildings and grounds for this fair can be seen on this map on the left side in pink between the railroad depot and Fairmount Park. Most of the buildings built for the fair have been since demolished. The "Explanation" in the lower right corner is in three languages, suggesting that this map may have been made as a souvenir of the fair, particularly because Gray was a geographical publisher based in Philadelphia.
