The maker of this map is unknown, the map was published in a school geography book c. 1850. An inset map at top shows the vicinity of Quebec and an image depicts the Death of Wolfe, copied from the well-known 1770 painting by Benjamin West depicting the death of British General James Wolfe at the 1759 Battle of Quebec during the French and Indian War. Hand coloring is probably recent, although not done by Maps of Antiquity. Very good condition, with some very light staining at bottom. Approx. 7 x 4.25 inches to neatline.

Carte de la Baye de Chesapeack, Chesapeake Bay *****SOLD***** - Maker: Bellin
Black and white antique map of Chesapeake Bay and the surrounding area by Bellin from 1757. This map features Williamsburg, Virginia, Baltimore and Annapolis, Maryland, and parts of Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey. This map was created before the Pennsylvania Mutiny of 1783 that forced congress out of Philadelphia and caused the creation of Washington, DC. This map shows nothing where the heart of the city would be although it does show Alexandria, which President Washington specifically wanted to be inside the District of Columbia. President Washington chose the site for the city and the corner stones were laid down in 1791, 34 years after this map was produced. This map is also pre- Mason-Dixon line, which was created in the 1760s, meaning that Pennsylvania still had a lease for all of what is now Delaware and the heirs of William Penn and 2nd Baron Baltimore were likely still in their lengthy litigation. Very good overall antique condition with some minor folds on the right side through the cartouche. Plate line is visible. Approx. 7.5 x 11. **SOLD**

Uncolored antique nautical chart by Joshua Fisher from 1776 showing Delaware Bay and River with parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. This is an important Revolutionary War era map shows Philadelphia, Wilmington, and Cape May, as well as shoals and other dangers to ships. The Delaware River is currently well known for George Washington's famous crossing on December 25th, 1776 and although the area of his crossing is not on this map, this is the sort of chart that would have been crucial. This was printed in London by W. Faden who was the successor to Jefferys. Also includes a list of twenty-two river pilots and the masters of the vessels and a warning to be wary of the soundings for safe navigation. Visible plate lines.
