A New & Accurate Map of North America including Nootka Sound: with the new discovered Islands on the North East coast of Asia. - Maker: Bowen
Antique uncolored map of North and Central America by Thomas Bowen, published "as the Act directs" by C. Cooke, 1790. This early map of North America has many interesting features: The map labels Quivera, one of the "Seven Cities of Gold" names by Coronado but never found, and Teguayo, another legendary location. Many of the states extend to the Mississippi River, including West Florida, which is separate from East Florida. There are several areas labeled "Parts Unknown" or "Land seen by the Spaniards 1775." This map reflects Cook's "discoveries" but much is still unknown, including Vancouver despite the fact that the Nootka Sound is included. Hawaii is labeled as both Sandwich Islands and O why-hee. this map is in good to very good condition with some minor vertical wrinkles and some light spots. Approx. 10.5 x 17 inches to the neatline.

Antique hand colored map of North America by il Barbiellini and engraved by Pietro, published in Geographia Universale in 1807. The United States stretch to just west of Lake Superior and Florida is colored to match Mexico as it was under Spanish rule until 1821. Much of the land forms seem to be not quite proportional, such as California and the gulf of California. Good to very good condition with overall even toning, large lateral margins, visible plate mark. Approx. 7 x 8.5 inches.

Antique hand colored map of Central America showing Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, San Salvador, Costa Rica. Five inset maps showing the US constructed Panama Railway across Panama (opened in 1855), the "Nicaragua Route", the Harbor of San Juan de Nicaragua, the City of Panama, and Manzanilla Island Aspinwall City (Colon, Panama). The final opening of the Panama Canal ocurred in the early 1900s, however talk of trying to create a waterway through Central America had been going on since the 1500s and heated up in the 1800s. Very interesting pre-canal map. Very good condition with small brown spots. Aprrox. 12.5 x 15.5 inches to the outer edge of the decorative border.
