North America
Antique uncolored map of North and Central America by Thomas Bowen, published "as the Act directs" by C. Cooke, 1790. This early map of North America has many interesting features: The map labels Quivera, one of the "Seven Cities of Gold" names by Coronado but never found, and Teguayo, another legendary location. Many of the states extend to the Mississippi River, including West Florida, which is separate from East Florida. There are several areas labeled "Parts Unknown" or "Land seen by the Spaniards 1775." This map reflects Cook's "discoveries" but much is still unknown, including Vancouver despite the fact that the Nootka Sound is included. Hawaii is labeled as both Sandwich Islands and O why-hee. this map is in good to very good condition with some minor vertical wrinkles and some light spots. Approx. 10.5 x 17 inches to the neatline. ***SOLD***
